This is a translation of the French version, which is the governing text. The ColisBF app is French-language; if the two ever differ, the French version applies.

1. Who we are

ColisBF ("we") provides a mobile app and a service for sending and tracking parcels between the United States and Burkina Faso. This policy explains what data we collect as part of that service, why, and what rights you have.

Contact: colisbf@colisbf.com

2. Data we collect

We only collect what the service actually needs. Nothing is collected for advertising purposes, and we use no advertising identifier.

  • Email address — to create your account, send you a login code, and contact you about your parcels. Provided by you.
  • Full name — to identify your account, and to identify a parcel's recipient. Provided by you.
  • Phone number — your own number on a sender account, and a recipient's number so we can notify them by SMS when their parcel arrives. Provided by you.
  • Photos — evidence of a parcel's condition at drop-off. Provided by you, if you choose to add any. Optional.
  • Device identifier — an identifier the app itself generates. This is not the manufacturer's advertising ID (IDFA/AAID). It is used to recognise a device you have already used and to require extra verification on an unrecognised one.
  • Account identifier — an internal identifier created with your account.
  • IP address — logged when a login code is requested, to limit abusive attempts and detect fraud.

We do not collect your location, browsing history, or contacts, and no health data. The only financial figure we hold is the shipping fee a ColisBF agent records manually for a given parcel.

3. How we use this data

  • To create and manage your account, and to authenticate you.
  • To create, track and deliver your parcels.
  • To send you notifications about your parcels. As a sender, these appear in the app and by email. A parcel's recipient, who has no ColisBF account, is notified by SMS when the parcel arrives and is ready for pickup.
  • To detect and prevent fraud — for example, recognising an unusual device at sign-in.

4. SMS notifications

ColisBF sends one kind of SMS: a delivery notification telling a parcel's recipient that their parcel has arrived and is ready for pickup. It is sent once per parcel, when a ColisBF agent records the parcel as arrived.

The recipient's phone number is given to us by the sender when they book the parcel. Consent itself is obtained once, when the sender creates their ColisBF account: before the account can be created, the sender accepts the Terms & Conditions and this Privacy Policy, and confirms that the recipients whose numbers they will enter — for every parcel they book, now and later — agree to receive an SMS from ColisBF when their parcel arrives. That undertaking covers each parcel booked afterwards and is not asked again at each booking. We never send SMS to a number that is not the named recipient of a booked parcel.

These messages are transactional. ColisBF sends no marketing SMS of any kind and operates no SMS marketing programme. You can stop the messages at any time by replying STOP, or reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. We use the following providers, solely to run the ColisBF service on your behalf:

  • Orange Burkina Faso (SMS) — delivers the arrival notification to a Burkina Faso (+226) number. Orange receives only the number and the message content, for that one send.
  • Twilio (SMS) — delivers the arrival notification to numbers outside Burkina Faso, including United States (+1) numbers, and acts as a backup if an Orange send fails. Twilio receives only the number and the message content, for that one send.
  • Our email provider — delivers login codes and the sender's parcel notifications.
  • Our hosting provider — data is stored on a server we operate. Photos are kept separately in private storage and are never publicly accessible.

We may disclose data where the law requires it.

6. Security

  • All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted (TLS 1.3).
  • On your device, your login credentials are held in the system's secure store — Keychain on iOS, encrypted Keystore on Android — never in plain text.
  • Access to data on the server is scoped by role: a sender sees only their own parcels, and staff see only what their role requires.
  • Administrator accounts are protected by two-factor verification (TOTP).

7. Data retention

  • While your account is active, your data is kept in order to provide the service.
  • If you delete your account (see section 8), your personal information — email, name, phone — is immediately anonymised and can no longer be linked back to you.
  • Parcels you already created, their photos and their event history are kept after account deletion. These are real shipping records that other parties — the recipient, an agent, a later audit — have a legitimate reason to keep seeing, in the same way a delivery service keeps a delivery history after an account closes.
  • We keep encrypted database backups for up to 30 days. A backup taken before you deleted your account may still contain your non-anonymised information until that backup ages out, even though the live service has already anonymised it.

8. Your rights

From within the app:

  • View and correct your information — the "My Account" screen.
  • Delete your account — "My Account" → "Delete my account". This is immediate and irreversible on the app's side; see section 7 for what is kept and why.

You can also contact us directly (section 1) with any question about your data, including a request to stop SMS notifications for a parcel addressed to you.

9. Minimum age

ColisBF is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

10. Where your data is processed

ColisBF operates between two countries, so data about a single parcel is necessarily seen in both. A parcel's details — including the recipient's name and phone number — are visible to the ColisBF agents handling it in the United States and in Burkina Faso, because handing a parcel to the right person is what those agents are doing. Your data is stored on a server we operate, and SMS content is passed to the carrier serving the destination number, as described in section 5.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Any material change will be announced in the app before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will change.
